OS/2 Drivers - Sound Blaster

This page was made on the place that the original from John Lemay. The "new" drivers are here... (-:

What is required?

I don't really know. I tested it under OS/2 Warp 4.0 and it worked ok. I think it will work on Warp 3.0 too, since some people reported me it was working. I received some notes saying that it works under OS/2 Warp Server for e-Business (Aurora) also. You'll need the MMPM/2 installed and also one of the sound boards listed in the table below. Note: only ISA boards are supported. PCI boards are not.

Installing the drivers

The first step is installing the "needed files that come with your system"... But it is the easy part. Run the selective install and, click on the button to select Sound Board. Use the table below to select what driver to install:

Now, reboot your system. Maybe your system will show some error message, it will depends on what board do you have. Ignore all messages. Now, download the driver (v2.30.0, install v1.2, 2.7Mb). These are actually the latest beta drivers which were available from Creative Labs before they discontinued OS/2 support. The installer version is 1.2.

Continue with the installation by unzipping the driver pack which you downloaded to a temporary directory and run the installation with the command install. Follow the directions that are provided by the installation routine. When you are prompted to enter data about the card, you can ignore this if your card is a PnP type, but if your card IS NOT a PnP one, you will have to say exactly what are the parameters. Once complete, and you have made the changes that are on README of the installer to your config.sys file, reboot. If your card still fails to load, here are a couple of things you can try:

Why had I done these drivers?

Well, I never had my own a Sound Blaster AWE64, but I always want to use the latest drivers for my sound board, a Sound Blaster AWE32. So, one day, I found the Sound Blaster Drivers version 2.30.0... I said "Wow! Mine are 2.25.0! I'll change them!", and then I started the download. It was, then, the "Colin Install" version, and it worked on my home, and everything goes very well.
But then I tried to install the CAPOS/2 and CTAVOS/2, two packages that was at Creative Labs ftp site, that complement the drivers. Well, everything goes messed. The sound board programs was not working any more and the AWE Control Panel goes crazy too.
"Strange" I thought. And then I started to "look around" and discovered that one DLL on the CAPOS/2 was older than one packed with the 2.30.0 drivers. So, I managed to make it work.

Some time later, I was "building" a new computer for a friend, and I installed OS/2 and an AWE64. Well, the first sensation was: "It doesn't work, damn it!". But with some changes I managed it to work.
Well, so I decided to share my "experience" with AWE64 with everyone and I started to "make" the package. After this, I create my first public package, called "SB16-32-64-v11b.ZIP". Some time after this, Colin Hildinger released a new version of it's package. The package was better than mine, everything on a single install, but it's drivers still being an old version. Now I decided to make the ultimate version, so, here we are.
Note: These drivers should work for every card between Sound Blaster 16 and Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold PnP (ISA versions).

This new version includes WinOS2 Drivers!

I would like to remember you that the drivers are NOT supported by the official enterprises, but feel free to contact me at: djcaetano@yahoo.com.br.
